The Beauty Strength and Wisdom of Diversity
At the end of June in 1969, the world was filled with chaos and uncertainty, contributing to the Stonewall Riots in Greenwich Village, New York. This disastrous event created an emphatic movement to have June designated as Gay Pride Month. Today, June is recognized as the month for declaring a positive stand against discrimination and violence toward the LGBTQ community.
Joining many other inclusive, faith communities in celebrating Gay Pride month and as part of our service, S.T.A.R. will welcome Larry and Marge Candler, who will share with us issues facing the LBGTQ community and families with gay loved ones. As proud parents of three gay children, the Candler’s will bring into focus the faces and stories behind labels and letters and an acronym. Their own lives are a story encouraging respect, dignity and compassion. An urging for ALL … to discover a larger heart-space for filling with love, offering a less chaotic and more certain world – becoming a place for ALL to live and to love.
Larry and Marge Candler grew up in Union County, SC. and both are life-long residents of SC – except for a three year stint in Huntsville, AL, where Larry worked in the space industry. They have lived in Greenville since 1966 and have spent the past 30 years as activist for equality and fairness for LGBTQ people.
A portion of the offering collected has been designated for PFLAG – honoring Larry and Marge for sharing their creative energy with us.
